The BCA Lion Team first started back in the late 1800s to perform with the oldest imperial dragon 'Loong', and continued to perform for events such as Easter and Chinese New Year.
Today the team continues to perform, now performing year round for various events.

Our lion team trains year round with performers of all ages, with the team training juniors for an hour a week, with seniors putting in as much as 4-5 hours a week on average. During training, the members are challenged both on an individual level and as a team, undergoing rigorous physical exercises. They learn about the Lion Dance technique, martial art stances, sequences and movements, instruments as well as various aspects of Chinese Culture. Performance Information
The BCA Lion Team can perform various types of lion dance:
- Southern Lion (Hok San and Fut San)(Most commonly performed of the 2 types); which is very cat like, based on martial arts movements, being regarded as the 'protector of dragons'. This lion is often accompanied by a Dai Tao Fut (or Fat Headed Monk), who's task is to play with and encourage the lion.
- Northern Lion; commonly called the 'Peking', which are from the cold north, being very dog like with long fur. Their movements are more acrobatic and playful. There are two pairs of these and sometimes one baby lion. Performers known as teasers, dance and tease the lions along the way.
Martial Arts displays can also be part of the performances with all being accompanied by an instrumental group which includes a drum, gongs, and cymbals. Joining the Lion Team

- Standard Training, Monday nights – 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm
- Advanced Training, Monday nights – 5 pm to 6.30 pm
