Bendigo Chinese Association Inc. Dragon Team

In dragon dance, a team of people carry the dragon on poles which follow the 'pearl', representing the dragons continual pursuit of wisdom. The lead performer (carrying the head) will lift, dip, thrust, and sweep the head that traditionally symbolise historical roles of dragons demonstrating power and dignity. These serpentine movements require speed, coordination, and power, which in all bring the majestic creature to life. Dragon dance requires close teamwork, combined with speed and good coordination, these values are something that the BCA Dragon Team works towards developing in all of its members, with training methods that require a group mentality to be completed

The BCA Dragon Team performs with Choi Loong the newest addition to Bendigo’s dragon family. Choi Loong is androgynous, so unlike the other dragons, it can be carried by Men and Woman together. Choi Loong is also a night dragon and glows under Black Light.

Joining the Dragon Team

Our Dragon Team is actively seeking new members, so we encourage you to contact us about joining.

If you are interested in joining one of our teams, go through our Pre-Registration Performers’ checklist which is helpful in selecting the team you will feel most comfortable with. If you are still interested, please fill in our Expression of Interest Form.

The Dragon Team trains on Mondays from 6 pm till 7.30 pm.
