About the Bendigo Chinese Association

The Bendigo Chinese Association has unofficially been around since the Chinese arrived in Bendigo during the gold rush of the 1850s with around 4,000 Chinese on the Bendigo fields. The association became incorporated on the 12 March 1986 with its headquarters located in Bridge Street.

The Bendigo Chinese community have had a long and proud history in Bendigo, through its charity works for Bendigo Health, to participating in the Bendigo Easter Festival.

From this, the Bendigo Chinese Association established the Golden Dragon Museum which proudly presents the history of the Chinese people in Bendigo and displays artifacts of this time.

Also on display are many of our dragons, such as Loong, the oldest Imperial dragon in the world which was heritage listed in 2008, and Sun Loong, the longest imperial dragon in the world, which still makes a public appearance at the Easter Festival.
